2014–now

Vestiges of New York

Creator & Developer

Wrote blog posts pairing photographs of New York City street corners with photos taken from the same spots decades earlier.

It started in 2014 as a then-and-now photo blog, mostly about the Lower East Side. Click a photo, and the same corner appeared decades earlier.

One click later: the same corner in 1898.

I wrote eight posts from August to October 2014, and carried the series to Untapped New York in NYC Then & Now: From Pushcarts to Trendy Boutiques on the Lower East Side.

I later relaunched the site as the website version of the OldNYC app, with 49,000+ New York Public Library photos on a map. The new vestigesofnewyork.com still has the original posts, with a divider you can drag between the two photos.
